Despite its ominous name, Mt. Purgatory and the several peaks along the way that spans around 25 kilometers makes up a wonderful trek in the Cordillera region.

So glad to complete all the six peaks on my third attempt to do the Mt. Purgatory traverse in one day. The first one, way back in 2017, we started late in the morning that prevented us from reaching Mt. Komkompol as dusk eventually approached. A year later, a typhoon forced us to go back as we were trying to reach Mt. Pack.

Today, as I look back on my first hike in Mt. Purgatory about eight years ago. I thought about what all those years can actually do to a person. I can still vividly remember my younger self, with his head full of dreams, thinking that soon enough he will be setting foot in the Himalayas, that one day he will be in an unfamiliar land thousands of miles away from home. That soon he will be hearing those strange noises from monasteries high up in the valleys, the clang of Yak bells as they transport goods to the far-flung settlements of Nepal.

Past forward to the present, on that same trail underneath a canopy of mossy trees, I gave my younger self a pat on the back for not giving up, for holding on to those dreams after all these years. I told him that, it did took some time, but that one day, that adventure of a lifetime we've been dreaming of, will now soon become a reality. 💯
