Sagpulon Falls, Misamis Oriental | Jasaan’s Towering Surprise
Jasaan, Misamis Oriental: As I took the final flight of stairs leading to the cascade, Sagpulon Falls made my neck hurt as I slowly trailed my eyes from the catch basin up to the top of the towering waterfall.
Jasaan: In For a Surprise
Mindanao never fails to surprise anyone visiting the island. On my third day of solo backpacking, my final stop is the coastal town of Jasaan in Misamis Oriental. After spending the night in Balingasag, I took a bus bound for CDO and alighted in Spring View Resort where I chartered a habal habal to bring me to Brgy. San Isidro.
Then upon arrival from the jump-off point where I paid the entrance fee, I immediately started the short hike. It took me around 5 minutes to reach Sagpulon Falls after crossing the short hanging bridge.
To be honest, I was not expecting much from the waterfall, just like my experience with Katibawasan Falls in Camiguin. Luckily, rains visited the area days prior to my visit made the headwater swell, and I am in for a surprise!
On the downside, the water at the river was brown, unlike the natural greenish blue waters during the summer season that I saw from blog posts I read online.
Sagpulon: In Full Glory
Then as I slowly climbed the last flight of concreted stairs, I finally heard the thunderous and deafening roar of the falling water.
Lo and behold, what a spectacular sight!
Sagpulon Falls is roughly around 150 feet high, a towering surprise indeed. Furthermore, as the water falls down into the deep catch basin, the refreshing spray of ice cold water and the ASMR sound of the gushing water took all my worries away.
One unique thing about Sagpulon Falls is the random spring water that gushes out from the rocks just a little bit above the catch basin. This reminds me of the Asik-Asik Falls of Alamada, Cotabato where spring water sprouts from random portions of the moss-covered rock walls.
As much as everyone wants this waterfall to remain pristine, there is an artificial swimming pool constructed as well as gazebos and cottages. These structures are now in a dilapidated state after Typhoon Pablo struck Northern Mindanao.
