The Great Amianan | Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, Ilocos Norte
Cape Bojeador Lighthouse will always be on top of the must visit attractions in Ilocos Norte.
We got back to the junction of Burgos from Kapurpurawan Rock Formation and drove for 20 minutes to the Barangay of Bannawag. By 11:00 in the morning, we reached the Faro De Cabo Bojeador or Cape Bojeador Light House.
The Spanish Beacon
Finished by 1887, it stands 160 meters atop the Vigia De Nagparitan Hill. This Spanish lighthouse was designed by Magin Pers. then commissioned by Servicio De Faros.
The Cape Bojeador lighthouse was designed to guide seafarers during the late Spanish colonial era. Morever, this lighthouse acts as a station point for ships veering towards the Pacific coast crossing the Babuyan Channel towards China, Japan and Hongkong. In fact, it assists ships heading south towards the Port of Salomangue in Ilocos Sur and Currimao in Ilocos Norte.
A National Cultural Treasure
Visitors will be rewarded with sundry topography and the view of the coastline from the top of the hill. This Spanish lighthouse is still in use up to the present day and was declared as a National Cultural Treasure on June 20, 2005.
This is part of Spain’s master plan for lighting the maritime coasts of the Philippine archipelago. The construction frenzy started when the country opened up to a wider network. In addition, it spearheaded the international access as the galleon trade of Manila-Acapulco started.
Then we continued on up to the next part of adventure, next stop: Northbound!
How To Get There
- From Manila, take any Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte bound buses (Partas and GV Florida), travel time takes 12 hours.
- Alight at Cape Bojeador Tricycle Terminal in Brgy. Bannawag
- Alternatively, alight at the Pagudpud Municipal Hall and take any tricycle to your accommodation of choice then avail the Southern Tour Package offered by the tricycle drivers where Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is included
