The Plunge in Bohol: The Highest Canyon Swing in the World
Danao, Bohol: The Plunge is probably Bohol’s most exciting attraction date.
“3…2…1… BOMBS AWAY!” That was the last thing I heard before I plummeted down into a 280-meter-deep canyon in Bohol’s Danao Adventure Park.
This is definitely one of those (death-defying) experiences worth keeping in your large repository of once-in-a-lifetime activities and challenges we call, the Bakit-List.
So Here’s How To Do The Plunge in 7 Crazy Easy Steps…
1) Listen carefully about how you’re actually going to die.
After donning on the helmet and fastening securely your safety Petzl harness, the trained guide will instruct you what to do before, during, and after the drop.
Listen carefully, try to absorb everything about the safety measures for it follows international standards.
2) Sit still, have faith, and don’t chicken out.
A steel bridge where the platform is attached at the drop point is where you will be asked to sit down, with your back against the deep gorge.
Do not worry, the guide has seen every reaction and has tried the ride many times, more than your previous exes. Did I tell you that this is a 280-meter-deep gorge, you will be free falling at around 70 meters and swing like a pendulum way down there. Scared already?
3) Say a little prayer, AMEN.
Don’t forget to pray and call out all the saints you know, if there are any.
This is the time wherein the platform will be lowered, and the cranking of gears will be like one of those horrifying music that you hear in movies. You also have the choice of whether to do it feet or head first.
4) Get the hang of it.
After the platform is lowered, you will be hanging now above the deep gorge, do not look down and anticipate how awkward your reaction might be. Remember, The Plunge is not for the faint-hearted. (Ginusto mo ‘yan)
Remember that the rope can carry around 5000kgs, so if you are as heavy as that, do not worry, they gotchu fam!
5) Fall back, smile back for mankind.
The guide will ask you if you are ready, and even though you are not, they’re still going to release you down there anyways.
A quick three-second countdown ending with a loud “BOMBS AWAY” there goes the fall. This is followed by your harrowing scream.
6) Swing your worries away.
After a good split second to two, you are now swinging above the forests from down below. GOOD JOB!
The length of the wire rope is a good one hundred meters and it might scare the heck out of you, you’ll get over it, and it will then be replaced by a victorious smile.
This is the perfect opportunity to smile at your friends taking a photo of you from up above the viewing platform. Way to go, Spartan, AHOO AHOO!
7) What goes down, must come up.
No, you will not descend to the gorge from down below, but you will be hoisted back to the platform.
Also, the guide will throw out a rope with a carabiner attached at the end, so make sure to catch it on your first try.
Inhale, Exhale
After almost passing out from too much drowsiness aboard the single motorcycle we hired from Tagbilaran City, I felt ecstatic and proud of myself after the jump, not remembering how I almost fell off the motorcycle prior to it.
I even convinced my friend to do The Plunge, even though he didn’t really wanted to cause he’s scared AF. But now lived to tell the tale, airborne and defenseless, he did what he thought was impossible and immediately posted it on his Facebook wall. Just like what I did. *pats my self on the back for a job well done
Inhale then exhale, for thrill seekers, the Danao Adventure Park in Bohol is the place to be. Definitely, this is the most exciting attraction in here after the zipline they call the “SUISLIDE” and the glass canopy cliff walk.
