Talon ni Eva!

One thing that’s unique to the waterfalls of DRT is the way they are all named. Talon ni Eva for an instance, was named after a Dumagat ancestor named Eva. Some accounts say that Eva’s a guy, it is short for Evaristo.

It has been unexplored for the longest time, but as of today, there are 40 potential tourist destinations all over DRT. After the quarantine this year, several locations recently opened up, and it definitely caught the eye of adventure seekers.

Big thanks to Mr. Michael Liansing Cruz, the town’s Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) and tourism officer. He is the one who reintroduced and stimulated the tourism and economy of DRT back to where it left off.

“Sa aking obserbasyon, ang pangunahing dahilan na nagtutulak sa mga lokal na mamamayan na sirain ang kalikasan ay ang kawalan ng oportunidad. Dahil dito, naisip ko na gamitin ang kalikasan upang pagkakitaan sa pamamagitan ng turismo.” – Michael Cruz

During our visit to the Eva Falls, our guide, Abel Santiago told us how they were so grateful to the LGU for giving them this opportunity to earn through tourism. In addition, the Dumagats has turned to ecotourism instead of charcoal making and cutting bamboo and timber.
