Pulangbato Falls, Negros Oriental | The Red Princess of Valencia

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Second on our list is the red waterfall of the neighboring town of Valencia, the Pulangbato Falls.

Dumaguete City is often dubbed as the City of Gentle People. Because of the hospitality of the people in here, more and more foreigners choose to retire here. After a day of adventure in Siquijor (click HERE), we got back to Dumaguete City to explore nearby attractions that are worth the visit.

Sulfur Vents

Aboard our habal-habal the winding mountain road going deep into the interiors of Valencia piqued our interest.

On our right side, the whole lush scenery suddenly changed into a smoking inferno. The soft billowing fumes emerging from hundreds of small crevices reeks of the wretched smell of Sulfur.

This sulfur vent stretches around a hundred meters and is protected by a yellow concrete railing. Locals call this the Smokey Mountain of Valencia, and is one of the major tourist draws and stopovers before reaching Pulangbato Falls.

Pulangbato Falls

Unlike the exhausting trek going up and down the Casaroro Falls (click HERE), Pulangbato Falls is just smack right inside a developed resort. Getting there will only take you a minute to reach the pool. It is called also at Malabo Falls or Twin Falls.

It is fitting to call her the red princess, since she’s a lot smaller than Casaroro Falls. Swimming in here is allowed despite the presence of Sulfur in water. Moreover, there’s also hotspring resorts around the area for you to dip in.

The presence of sulfur in the water is due to the activity Mt. Talinis, which is a potentially active volcano. Valencia is a mountainous town surrounded by Geothermal Power Plants namely: Palinpinon, Nasulo and Okoy.

In addition, this further justifies why the rocks along the Okoy River Valley is colored orange to red.
