BZ Mont Biker’s Haven, Subic, Zambales | Where To Bike Next?
On the other side of Subic, Zambales lies BZ Mont Biker’s Haven.
This is a resting place for bikers made by Sir Bong Reyes that is perched on the highlands fronting Mt. Malasimbo of Dinalupihan, Bataan and the Cabusilan mountain range.
BZ Mont What?
I was actually curious what the name of the place stands for. I found out that BZ Mont actually stands for “B” Bataan, “Z” Zambales, while “MONT/ MONTE” stands for Mountains. At around 400 meters above sea level, this place offers views of the western flank of the Cabusilan Range and western Dinalupihan highlands.
The usual meet-up spot for BZ Mont rides are from Basa Airbase in Floridablanca, Pampanga which is roughly 17.3 kilometers from BZ Mont.
From the underpass of SCTEX in Floridablanca, the trail winds for 7.2 kilometers and is halfway paved as of writing. Being a neophyte in biking, I am guessing that this was my baptism of fire.
The uphill was continuous and pushed my bike by foot on some parts. Even experienced bikers find this trail hard as I have talked to some of them who’ve been in here several times.
Stores at several parts of the Batiawan road offers refreshments and food, just practice the minimum health and safety standards at all times.
Upon reaching the Brgy. Batiawan proper in Subic, Zambales there will be a downhill route which is around 2 kilometers before reaching the jump-off to Patal Falls.
The Hardest Roads Often Lead To…
From the jump-off you will be asked to pay 20php for the entrance fee then you will resume on foot for around 10-15 minutes to reach the falls.
From the falls, we managed to climb back to the 400 meter elevation Batiawan Proper. BZ Mont is just a few hundred meters away from there. Upon arrival, you will be asked to pay the 50php passway fee and 20php entrance fee.
Vegetarian food is served here for lunch and you can reserve a slot prior to your arrival so they can prepare it beforehand. You can coordinate with Ate Maria about this and 150php for the food and fees will be charged.
Then our exit point is from BZ Mont down to SCTEX then a longer detour to Dampe to Bodega in Floridablanca. Total downhill distance was around 12.2 kilometers and unfortunately we got drenched in the rain on this segment.
