Mati’s Ice Cold Cascades – Pangyan Falls

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Here’s a travel guide and what to expect in Pangyan Falls, Davao Oriental.

Arriving at Don Mariano Marcos, one of the last three barangays at the far end of town, we took a turn and arrived at Pangyan Falls. This three-tiered waterfall is not frequently visited which makes this somehow an off the grid destination.

A small community welcomed us, several stalls serving food, coffee, bread with Marang and Durian hanged out in front of their windows to be sold out.  We only paid 10php for the entrance fee.

Hot spring pools will greet you from the entrance. The concrete pathway leads to the first tier up to the second tier which is covered by thick foliage and boulders at both sides. The first tier is just around 10 feet and flows smoothly down to the river near the entrance.

From the second tier, which is wide and cascades down into smaller rocks, you will have to cross the shallow pool then scale the second tier along its sides to get to the main cascade.

Arriving at the main cascade, which is at 20 feet high, we soaked up ourselves at the shallow catch basin. The gushing water was soothingly cold and relaxing.
