Bulacan’s Giant Chess Board | Bustos Dam Eco Park
Bustos Dam Eco Park is just one of the many surprises in the province of Bulacan. Bustos is known for its appetizing Minasa, ancestral houses but I never knew that a secret lies within Brgy. Tibagan.
Being a Bulakenyo by birth, this was the first time I actually went around and explored my province. I never thought there’s so much to see and do.
In this bike ride, let me take you to the Bustos Dam Eco Park!
Asia’s Largest
Starting my bike ride from Guiguinto, Bulacan, I took the Plaridel Bypass Road until I reached Gen. Alejo Highway in Bustos. Turning right, a two-kilometer stretch brought me to Bustos Dam Eco Park.
There are three dams in Bulacan, namely: Angat, Ipo and Bustos. These dams have extensive benefits for the province since it provides water for irrigation and supplying precious water and electricity to the province and Metro Manila.
On the other hand, it adversely affects the environment as it alters the natural flow of the rivers.
Bustos Dam is also known as Angat Afterbay Regulator Dam. Smaller compared to Angat and Ipo Dam, Bustos Dam is the longest rubber dam in Asia at 79 meters and the second-largest globally.
Constructed in 1926 for farmland irrigation in the Bulacan and Pampanga areas, this dam continually serves the locals of the province. Through the years, extensive rehabilitation and repairs have been conducted.
During the dry season, visitors are allowed to go down and take a dip at the river. Moreover, they can take pictures at the square tiles that looks like a giant chess board from above.
